My name's Zulia Arbon and I teach ESL for students from Years 1 to 2 at Rego School. Thanks again for the workshop, lots of great ideas. My favourite part was about how 20 years of experience could be a one year repeated 20 times! :) I teach for almost 18 years and have always tried to be creative and adapt my teaching to my students' needs.
Here is how I've already used one of the ideas from your workshop. On Friday I had students blaming each other for saying rude words to each other. I took the class rules poster off the wall and we went through all the usual stuff how we should all be kind towards each other, etc. Then I asked my students to write their names around the poster to emphasize that they do know the rules! They were a bit surprised, but I think it made a trick and they felt more responsible for following the rules! :)
Have you tried creating essential agreements with your students? It really does work well and gives you all set of classroom "rules" that they own and do tend to be more vigilant about!
